The Climate Leadership Program will be offered in Alberta, between March and - July 2019. Final locations and dates will be provided to successful applicants.
The CLP is for people 25 and older, who have been active in their organization/sector for at least two years and who intend to continue to be involved there over the next 3-5 years.
We are looking for 20 people who are on leadership pathways in organizations that do not necessarily have climate change as their core focus. For example, past program participants have had continuing roles in: education, health care, the private sector, First Nations bands, government, the labour movement, the energy sector, cooperatives, not-for-profits that focus on newcomers, and so on.
We value the contributions people from equity-seeking groups bring to our organization, leadership, and movement building. We encourage applications from LGBTTQ+ people, Indigenous peoples, people of colour, low-income earners and the unemployed, immigrants and refugees, people with disabilities or another equity seeking group with which you identify.
- March 15/17 - Kananaskis Country, Alberta.
- April 12/14 - Edmonton.
- May 10/12 - Calgary.
- June 14/16 - Red Deer.
- July 12/14 - Kananaskis Country, Alberta.
We offer scholarships to cover all the (reasonable) expenses associated with the program. There is a sliding scale fee
- $1000 (professional development)
- $400 (employed)
- $200 (lower income)
- Fully funded scholarships are available on request.
Arrangements for familycare and childcare are available to support participants’ individual situations.
We do expect that people living outside of Edmonton and Calgary will be able to get themselves to and from those locations independently, and we’re willing to help with that if needed. The accommodations and meals are mostly covered, though folks will need to arrange their own breakfasts and accommodations for the weekends in Calgary and Edmonton. We will facilitate billeting for folks if needed.
The structure of the CLP means that missing out will be disruptive to the other participants and to your own understanding of the content and skills that are part of each weekend. Because a portion of each session is devoted to collaborative project work, attendance is mandatory.
The resources to offer the CLP represent a large investment of skill and planning by the facilitators and guests, as well as considerable financial support from our donors. Every year there are more applicants that participant places, so by accepting a spot in the CLP, you are taking someone else's opportunity.
We strongly encourage applicants to be certain that they can fully participate in all of the CLP sessions before applying.
Participants who are unable to fully attend the program may be asked to withdraw.
Applications are due at noon, February 25, 2018.
They can be sent by email to: email@example.com, or delivered to: Mike Byerley c/o Alberta EcoTrust Foundation, 100 1711 10 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T3C 0K1
Sort of. We don't require a letter of reference. We do require the name of a person that we can contact if we want to know more about your leadership and organizational involvements. This person should be someone who is familiar with your leadership skills, and who understands your interest and potential as a climate leader. We'll need the name, phone number and email for your reference person. You should make certain that your reference knows that you're applying for the CLP, and that they might be contacted by us.
We invite you to use in a format that allows you to best present yourself. This may be with a printed or written application, verbally, with the assistance of an interpreter, or using other technologies that are suitable in presenting your application. If you choose to use an alternative form of application, you must arrange this with Mike Byerley, so that your application is received no later than February 21.
Mailed applications that are delivered after the application deadline will not be accepted.
