Next Up is a leadership program for young people committed to environmental and social justice. We run programs across the country to train and grow emerging progressive leadership.
Next Up was created with the belief that a better world is not just possible, but is imperative, and that we must support young leaders if we are to find solutions to our collective challenges. We believe in this mission now, more than ever.
Created in 2006 in Vancouver, 2016 marked Next Up’s 10th Anniversary. We now offer our 8-month program to cohorts in 7 cities across Canada annually: Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg & Ottawa.
We’ve also expanded to run the following programs:
- The Alberta Climate Leadership Program is a 5-weekend intensive course for Alberta residents committed to bringing climate action to their organizations and communities.
- The BC three day intensive brings together young people in different parts of BC for a quick, intensive leadership program.
- The BC Indigenous Youth In Action (IYIA) program (a collaboration with IndigenEYEZ) is a 4-day leadership program that brings together Indigenous young adults from different parts of BC.
- The First Nations and Métis Youth in Action is an intensive program for First Nations & Métis Youth from across Saskatchewan.
Our network of social change leaders is growing: 534 people have graduated from the program so far, and Next Up alumni are making waves across sectors and issues – from labour, politics, and academia, to arts, service, and grassroots activism.
